Portuguese Army Museum, Lisbon

In June we were in Lisbon so I had to drag Katherine around this slightly run down museum. It was actually pretty good, especially if you were into lots and lots of cannon. Interestingly quite a few of the monsters on display had been cast in Goa. There was a room dedicated to the Napoleonic Wars and another to the 1st World War. Much of the rest, apart from the cannon, focussed on Portugal's colonial empire from the earliest times through to the 1970s.

  1. Blimey, that is cannon heaven! Do you have any idea of what that massive wheeled carriage was built to carry?

  3. I thought exactly the same about the huge limber. My only thought that pre EEC days the portugese roads were pretty poor so it really was not going anywhere fast unless there was a handy river nearby.

Out of curiosity, was there a bookstore that looked to anything of interest?

    1. Thanks. Sadly the 'gift shop' was pretty tacky and no books on sale.
