Lobositz tomorrow.

Monday is the anniversary of the Battle of Lobositz, 1 October 1756, the first battle of the Seven Years War which pitted Fredrick against  an Austrian army under FML Maximilian Ulysses Von Browne. I’ve played this battle several times over the last three of four years and it remains a favourite that I try to refight as close to the anniversary as possible. I would have to check but honours have been fairly even,  maybe even in favour of the Austrians to date.
The table is set. Lobosch Hill is lower right covered in woods and vineyards. The  troops will be deployed later today.
On Saturday (tomorrow) the Burrow will be host to some of the guys, Conrad, John the Red, Dave Jarvis, Paul S and newly retired and returned to the area visitor Steve the Architect, for this year’s Lobositz ‘bash’. We shall be using Black Powder, with a few house rules plus the second addition amendments where these are known.

  1. Ah Lobositz, a true classic ever since Brig Young put it in the Wargame. Freddy vs Von Browne, an even fight that gave honours to both sides.
Looking forward to pics of your game.
    Cheers, Peter

  6. Looking forward to following this Colin.
I was on the battlefield last week and spent the day walking the key positions. I was talking to a local guy who remembered finding musket balls and other items in the fields when he was a kid.

  9. Lobositz is my favourite battle of the SYW. I first came across it in a 2 part article in the old Miniature Warfare. I think I will dig the mag out and and post it on my blog.

  10. Nice looking table Colin and I am impressed by your commitment - the number of refights you do on or close to the battle anniversary is commendable!
