Clive Smithers Wargaming Sale

My old mate Clive Smithers, who died recently, had a massive and eclectic wargames collection of largely ‘vintage’ and ‘Old School’ figures. His collections are being auctioned off, and having gone through the catalogue it’s a sad thing to reflect that this represents someone’s hobby life. There’s probably a good deal to be had for someone with some of the lots, but that’s not the point. I am positive this is not everything but there’s still plenty. Here is the link to the auction.  I’ve got no plans to bid on anything but although I have no plans to depart this mortal coil just yet maybe I should get the inventory of my collection up to date?

  1. Hello Colin. I'm Clive's brother Gavin; having emptied the house, I can confirm that (a) this is indeed everything and (b) yes please make it easier for your nearest and dearest by keeping intelligible records!

  2. Having sold some of my fathers S-Range Minifigs to Clive I was really looking forward to viewing his extensive collection and seeing if I could spot any of them, sadly the catalogue photos makes it impossible to zoom in and identify any figures. The photos all appear to have been taken on a phone camera which is very disappointing, therefore no detail is visible and apart from the Lot descriptions it makes any bidding a bit of a lottery. Such an amazing lifetimes collection deserved the best photography so they could reach their true value.

  3. Got to agree with the comments Colin, especially regarding cataloging our collections. I keep putting it off but it would be remiss not to have a proper list of items prepared. As for the photography of Clive's figures, it is pretty dreadful and very unprofessional. Clearly its been a rush job especially as the catalogue was only posted the night before the auction. Descriptions are pretty generic and uniformative.

  4. Gavin here again. Belatedly they have redone the photos. It's much better now.
